Your bridal hair trial or bridal preview, as I prefer to call it is one of the most exciting parts of planning your wedding look.
It’s the point where all of those saved photos, dress details and ideas start to come together into something that feels completely personal to you.
As a bridal hair specialist based in Surrey, I always want my brides to leave their preview feeling excited, confident and completely comfortable with the style we’ve chosen.
Here are a few simple things you can do beforehand to get the very most from your appointment.
What to bring to Your Bridal Hair Trial
Pinterest and Instagram are brilliant for gathering ideas, so save anything that catches your eye.
You don’t need to find one exact hairstyle to copy. In fact, I often find it more useful when a bride shows me a few different styles and explains what she likes about each one.
It might be the softness around the face, the texture of the bun, the height at the crown or the way the hair works with a veil.
From there, we can create something that suits you, rather than simply recreating somebody else’s hair.
Bring photos of your dress
Your hairstyle and your dress should work beautifully together.
Neckline, detailing, sleeves, back design and overall style can all influence how I would approach your bridal hair.
If you already have your veil or hair accessories, bring those along too so we can see how everything works together.
Think about how you normally wear your hair
Your wedding day doesn’t have to be the day you suddenly become someone completely different.
If you never normally wear your hair slicked tightly away from your face, for example, a very structured style might not make you feel comfortable.
The goal is for you to feel like the best version of yourself, not like you’re wearing somebody else’s hairstyle.
Be honest during your preview
This is your opportunity to make changes.
If you want something softer, fuller, higher, lower or more relaxed, tell me. I would much rather refine the style together during your preview than have you quietly wondering whether something could have been different.
Sometimes the smallest adjustment completely changes how a hairstyle feels.
Consider your wedding day as a whole
Think about the season, venue, ceremony time, photography, weather and how long you need your style to last.
A summer outdoor wedding has different considerations from a winter ceremony in a country house, and a destination wedding may need a slightly different approach again.
Your bridal hair should look beautiful in photographs, but it also needs to work in real life from morning until night.
Most importantly, enjoy it
Your bridal preview shouldn’t feel like another wedding task to tick off.
It’s a chance to slow down, talk through your ideas and start seeing your wedding look come together.
